Our Mission

The Tuscola Conservation District has made a commitment to our community to assist with the preservation of the natural resources of Tuscola County through education and practical solutions

 Managing Our Natural Resources

Our natural resources provide us with many opportunities for enjoyment and products.  The residents of Michigan are blessed to have such an abundance of woods and water that we often take it for granted.  Our goal at the Tuscola Conservation District is to promote wise use of our natural resources.  This will allow future generations the pleasures of the outdoors that we have been given.

History

On March 13, 1943 several landowners in Elkland, Elmwood, Ellington, Almer, Juniata, and Indianfields township petitioned for the creation of the Tuscola Conservation District.  The first board of directors included: Dorr Perry, Erwin Zemke, R. Lester Hill, Bruce Brown, and Walter Goodall.  On February 4, 1944 Dean Gordon became the first Federal employee.  Today the district has six employees that include: District Administrator, CREP technician, Ground Water Technician, Sebewaing River Technician, Education Coordinator, and part time Administrative Assistant.
